Questo è quello che pensavo di scrivere alla Garmin, ditemi un po cosa ne pensate:
Hello I bought an Edge 205 in November 2006. I'm satisfied with this device but I've noticed a problem that could be worth your attention.
I use the Edge 205 on most of my mountain bike rides and then analyze the collected data on CompeGPS 6.4 or MotionBased. I've noticed that the altitude accumulation is always much greater than it should be.
I thought that this was normal on a device without a barometric altimeter, but after comparing my altitude profiles with other ones coming from similar GPS navigators (e.g. ForeTrex 101) I have noticed that these were much smoother than mine!
I've discussed this topic on an internet forum and with the collaboration of many other GPS users we were able to compare 4 altitude profiles wich were recorded on the same path, on the same day but with different GPS devices.
This is what we found out (using CompeGPS 6.4 with Minumum_Altitude_Acumulation=2m):
Edge 305: total accumulation 884m
Edge 205: total accumulation 1429m
ForeTrex 101: total accumulation 862m
Nokia N70 mobile with Smartcomgps + LD-3W blutooth gps receiver(no barometer): total accumulation 873m
You can see VERY clearly that all the devices but the 205 gave almost the same result. What seems to be going on is that the software on the Edge 205 is uncapable of managing the altitude data coming from the receiver appropriately.
I'm aware that, expecially when the signal is bad, the GPS altitude can oscillate quite widely, but all the other devices (even those not equipped with a barometric altimeter!) where apparently able to correct these errors much better than the 205.
What I'm asking you is to take notice of this problem and consider fixing it in one of the next updates.
Lots of potential Garmin costumers are reading about this subject on the forum (it has more than 15,000 registered users) and I'm sure they would appreciate greatly your effort to let all your products express their full potential and keep your customers satisfied.
Kind Regards.
